Why Yahoo Likes Newspapers (According to MediaPost)

This article, from MediaPost’s Search Insider, provides an excellent commentary on the reasoning behind Yahoo’s recent partnership with 176 daily papers around the country. As Bill Wise states, “Yahoo understands that, at the end of the day, it’s newspapers that have the infrastructure to make themselves a part of the local scene in a way that globally-focused online players — including Yahoo — simply can’t.” I’d add Monster to the list of players that have limited ability to navigate down to the local level in a relevant, user-friendly manner. Monster had better work quickly to add local print partners to its arsenal, or they are going to continue their descent down the rankings of online job classified sites behind not only CareerBuilder, but Yahoo’s HotJobs as well.
