The First Thing I’ve Ever Agreed With Jim Cramer On…
Actually, there might be a few other things too but I’d never know because I cannot listen to him long enough to find out (like clockwork every day at 5 PM CST I must turn the TV in my office off lest I develop a migraine from Cramer’s ludicrous Mad Money antics….). At any rate, on Monday I came back into my office at 5:05 to find him talking about the XM/Sirius merger and actually kept listening. On this issue, he is dead on the mark (see my earlier posts here & here).
The hacks in congress opposing this merger are nothing more than further proof (as if we needed more) that corporate lobbyists, their clients, and the billions they spend buying politicians every year not only control Washington, but Washington exists entirely to do little more than serve their interests. When corporate money wants a merger or the ability to consolidate media properties in local markets, congress lays down and watches it sail through. When corporate money wants to block a merger, members of congress wail and gnash their teeth over thinly disguised, absurdly ridiculous arguments about anti-trust issues, fair competition, and ‘the best interest of consumers.’ It’s a complete joke. This merger is terrific for consumers and terrestrial radio, big media, the NAB, and their puppets in congress should be tarred and feathered for their hypocrisy.
