RedMatch Launches Standalone Job Site RealMatch

realmatch.jpgSilly me for starting to think that things on the venture funding and M&A front were starting to slow down a bit in the online employment classified space. RealMatch announced that they have raised another $3M in funding (albeit a while ago), bringing their total financing to $9.5M in VC funding. More interesting was the fact that they have launched a new standalone jobs site to diversify beyond their 1,100 private label sites they have been building and operating for daily newspaper sites around the country. The Maryland-based company’s investors include Munich-based Bay Tech Venture Capital and Lee Enterprise’s newspaper technology company Town News.

The move makes a lot of sense for the company given the fact that daily newspapers are becoming a less and less attractive foundation upon which to base your entire business. The challenge will be in differentiating themselves in an already crowded field and transitioning their sales focus from newspapers and publishers to employers and job seekers. No small task.
