Conde Nast Announces iPhone App For Its Magazines

There may have been others, but this is the first I’ve seen from a major magazine group announcing an app that brings a print magazine to the iPhone. It’s about time. My favorite and most used app at the moment is the New York Times, and I’d love to have more of my preferred media available to me on my iPhone. One of the things I truly enjoy about flying is the ability to wade through my backlog of magazines that have stacked up on my desk for a month, but I cannot stand lugging onto the plane my typical 10 pounds of reading material.

I’m tempted by the Kindle and might have made the move, but then rumors of an Apple tablet gained steam and I’m waiting to see what happens. But whether it’s a Kindle, a Tablet, an iphone, an Android, or one of the other myriad choices out there, the day will come when all printed content will be delivered to and consumed from a mobile device, and the sooner that publishers not only understand this, but embrace it and act on it intelligently, the better their chances are of actually surviving to see that day.
