Free Resume Proofreading for Veterans and the Long-Term Unemployed

Guest post by Luke Palder, Founder and CEO of ProofreadingServices.com

Even though the economy is slowly improving, it’s still tough out there for a lot of people. Millions continue to be without work, and many have reached the end of their unemployment benefits.

Some employers are finally starting to hire again, but with so many people competing for jobs, you need every advantage you can get. Since it all starts with your resume, we at ProofreadingServices.com decided to offer our resume proofreading expertise for free to at least 1,000 U.S. citizens who make up the long-term unemployed (out of work for six months or longer) or are veterans who can’t find work.

Why veterans and the long-term unemployed?
In order to help those people who need it the most (and for whom we will be the most effective), we feel that we have to be very selective. Veterans have incredibly high jobless rates, and we have a duty to help those who have so selflessly defended our country.
And the long-term unemployed are far more likely to have blown through savings and maxed out credit cards simply because they’ve struggled for more time.
What will we do for you if you are chosen? Our experts will examine your resume and work to improve the following:

•    Spelling
•    Grammar
•    Word choice
•    Sentence structure
•    Formatting inconsistencies

Our company doesn’t stand to gain anything directly by providing this important social service. It’s just something that we felt we could do to help in our proofreaders’ downtime. In fact, we’re surprised that more people aren’t offering help like this.
People are hurting, and if we’re able to do something—anything—to help, we believe that it’s our responsibility to do so.

Is this real?
Absolutely. So far, we’ve been able to help more than 100 people, but that’s obviously well short of our goal of 1,000. If you are an unemployed veteran or have been out of work for at least six months, or if you know someone who falls into one of these categories, please don’t hesitate to send them our way.
