In this time of almost “full employment” we are seeing bonuses relied on more heavily as a recruiting tool. In fact, companies are putting the word “Bonus” right in job titles to grab candidates’ attention. In the LinkUp database, we’ve seen 6,000 more job titles with the word “Bonus” in them in December 2018 compared to just two years ago.
The top occupations using “Bonus” as an incentive for hiring reflect the changing needs of America’s demographic changes and shopping habits. Health care jobs such as Nurses, Home Health Aides, and Personal Care Aides are in high demand due to aging baby boomers.
According to a 2017 article in Deloitte Review, “about one-quarter of the net job gain is expected to be in health care occupations, which are projected to grow almost 20 percent over 10 years.” Companies with these job openings need to use whatever tools they can to encourage more people to apply.
Truck Driving has the second highest use of the term “bonus” in job titles to motivate more people to apply. According to the American Trucking Association, “About 51,000 more drivers are needed to meet the demand from companies such as Amazon and Walmart that are shipping more goods across the country.” These companies are desperate for drivers and are offering both signing bonuses and pay raises.
